Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing & Languages

Words, ideas, and stories have the power to shape the world. They dictate how we define our past, articulate our present, and innovate for our future. In short, they mold the very lives we live.

The Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing, & Languages (LJWL) provides you with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to create, understand, and interpret written expressions of the human experience in English and other world languages. By pursuing one of the several majors or minors we offer, you'll work alongside inquisitive students and committed faculty members to hone your ability to read, write, communicate, and think critically about the deep questions that challenge us as we strive to become God’s redemptive agents in the world.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGAGEMENT

Developing into a world citizen doesn't only happen inside the walls of the classroom — it happens by coming face-to-face with new opportunities, people, places, and ideas. From setting foot on foreign soil and discussing literary theory with a group of diverse peers to accruing hard-earned advice and insight from some of the world's most famous writers and authors at the Writer’s Symposium by the Sea, the Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing, & Languages offers many opportunities for meaningful engagement.

Faculty

Our faculty serve as both teachers and mentors, committed to guiding you toward a full and purposeful education. By helping you explore thought-provoking and influential ideas and engage complex and difficult questions, you'll have access to an environment devoted to the pursuit of truth. An education at ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç is both transformative and meaningful.
