Military Frequently Asked Questions

Who should I ask if I have questions not answered on the website?

Any individual or policy questions not answered here should be brought to the attention of Veteran Services at veteranservices@pointloma.edu. This email account is monitored by the director of military programs, the senior school certifying official, and the veterans benefits processing team. It’s the fastest way to get your question answered or forwarded to the right person at ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç who can answer your questions.

Am I a member of the military community at ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç?

The military community includes active-duty, reservists, National Guard, veterans, and the spouses and children of these groups. Military benefits are earned by the service member through length of service and in many cases by the level of personal sacrifice required during service. Honoring our military community and facilitating access to these education benefits is central to our desire to serve our community. We advocate for those using military benefits with the same level of care and concern associated with any student account.

Which programs and services are available to the military community at ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç?

¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç serves the military community in all of our programs. There are no exclusions from any programs for military-connected students. Programs and services are offered in a variety of formats and locations. It’s important for the service member, veteran, or family member to assess the program for the best fit with their needs. Not all programs are eligible for all military benefits, so please check with our military outreach counselor, if you have questions about a program to which you may apply.

Why is ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç a good fit for military-connected students and their families?

Veterans thrive when their professional transition has three critical components:  community, education, and faith. Not only are these pillars beneficial to veterans, they’re helpful to anyone in transition. At ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç we’re fully committed to all three; we’re united in our commitment to serve others with genuine compassion, generosity, and humility. This community of service and connection creates a genuinely safe place for student-veterans and military families to learn, prosper, and find purpose in their education. Through our faith we enjoy a host of worship, service, and leadership opportunities, which provides us the opportunity to be renewed, ready, and engaged with purpose. We truly want to share the abundance of love and compassion that defines our faith with our military-connected students and their families.

As a military-connected applicant, are there any special procedures for my application?

Our admissions counselors will help you with everything from submitting transcripts and academic planning to VA benefits and other financial aid. We’ll even have your transcripts evaluated before you apply for admission to see which of your military credits can be transferred.

You can apply to ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç on the website at pointloma.edu or through CommonApp.

The most important thing to know is your application process is the same as any other student. There are just a few steps you need to take to apply for your VA benefits.

If you’re active duty, reserves, a veteran, or a spouse or child of a service member, please contact our military outreach senior counselor at veteranservices@pointloma.edu. The counselor will guide you through the application process and help you connect with all of the best resources to help you answer your questions before, during, and after your application.

How can I find out if I qualify for an application fee waiver?

Students can email admissions@pointloma.edu if they have questions on qualifying documents or needing a refund. Please note that at this time we are not extending the application fee waiver to active duty service members or dependents. We hope to extend our fee waiver to active duty service members and dependents in the future. Our leadership team will keep you updated accordingly.
